Starting in October 2021, Croft Pottery will offer a range of wheel throwing and hand building courses aimed at different levels and age groups.

We will run weekly evening and day time courses, one day courses as well as weekend and residential courses.

We will also run advance courses in making, Glazing and firing.

Designed for different levels and experiences, our range of classes, courses and clubs offer the perfect stepping stones for your potting journey. Whether you are a total beginner looking to try pottery for the first time, an enthusiast wanting to develop further through a course or club, or a seasoned potter looking for a master class with some of the best Potters in the business, Croft Pottery has something for everyone.

Our Classes, Courses and Clubs

A Taster Class is perfect for someone that is looking to try potting on a wheel for the first time. You teacher will introduce you to clay, the wheel and the tools needed and then they will guide you through the 'Throwing' process. You will learn how to centre the clay, open out your form and then how to pull up the wall to create a pot.

Taster Class

4 Week Introduction to Throwing and Trimming Course
A great follow on from our taster class or as a standalone course. Our 4 week introduction course is designed to teach you how to make pots on a potters wheel in a bit more detail. In weeks 1-3 your teacher will guide you through the 'Throwing' and 'Trimming' process teaching you how to make cylinders and bowls. In the 4th week of the course you will be introduced to decoration techniques and shown how to apply handles to complete your creations.

8 Week Throwing development, Trimming and Glazing Course
Ideal for those that want to develop their throwing and trimming skills further and gain knowledge of glazes and the glazing process.
A perfect progression from our 4 week course or for anyone with prior throwing experience, you will learn to throw a range of forms such as mugs, bowls, plates and bud vases. Your teacher will guide you on the different approaches and techniques used to throw sets, throw big and throw more complicated forms. In weeks 7 & 8 you will be introduced to glazes and glazing enabling you to decorate your pots.

Clay Club
The beating heart of our creative clay community, Clay Clubs are run as weekly 2.5 hr sessions for members. Club membership is aimed at those who want to explore wheel throwing, hand building, glazing and firing further in a friendly and supportive group environment. It’s the perfect option for anyone who wants to take up Pottery and Ceramics as a hobby, use the sessions as a relaxing escape, or perhaps create work to exhibit or sell. Clay clubs are best suited to those that have completed our 8 week course or folk that have previous experience working with clay.

Master Classes
Starting in October 2025 Our Master Class program will offer the opportunity to learn from some of the best potters and ceramic artists practicing today. We will be running Bi-monthly workshops with makers from a range of different disciplines. Our list of workshops will be released for booking in September

Private Hire
Croft Pottery offers a private hire service so that you can book the studio and a teacher for private tuition, special occasions, family sessions, kids classes, corporate days, team building, staff training, School classes etc.
